The Chaplain Project

This is an old project which was already completed but I will still share it since sharing is awesome.

What you see there is the completed chaplain. There were alot of things that happened when kitbashing this guy.

I am a Blood Angels player, and chaplains are very useful to the Blood Angels army especially with the Death Company troops the only problem is, I do not have a Chaplain nor do I want a Finecast one.

In order to solve my dilema I did what most people would, Ask. I asked fellow gamers in the forums and searched online for an alternative, lo and behold I found one, its was called "Kitbash".

In the miniature hobby there will be at some point where you will have excess bits and parts of different kits and most of the time these bits will be used for trade and kitbashing.

First I sought out parts. The body parts are easy, the ones that are tricky are the head and the Crozius Arcanum. Below are the bits that are used for those parts.
Here are some nifty videos on how the head and crozius were made.
Video for Head Part,Making the Crozius Arcanum.

I wanted this chaplain to be special hence the flames in the head, you can read about flame sculpting here. But that is not the only thing special about the chaplain, he can also switch backpacks.

First up would be painting the flames:
First was mix skull white and ultramarines blue 50:50 and make a very thin wash out of it, and apply it over the flames twice.
1st Wash
 2nd Wash
Then make a wash out of 50:50 Ultramarines Blue and Mordian Blue and apply it around 2/3 to the top of the flames
Then make a wash out of Mordian blue around 1/3 to the top
 Back View
Then Wash the Flames Again with the 50:50 Skull White and Ultramarines Blue Mixture
Be sure to leave around 3-5mins of drying time inbetween washes

DryBrush the same mixture of 50:50 Skull White and Ultramarine Blue, be sure that the brush is really dry, dry brush it all over the flames twice
1st Brush
 2nd Brush

Now, how did i magnetize the backpacks?
Here is how:
With a drill bit with the same size of the magnet, which I forgot the measurements, i drilled a hole in the chaplains back

I placed the magnet in the hole with super glue
Attached another one, painted it white so that the paint would transfer to the other part, marking where to drill

Drilled out the hole and again placed the magnet with super glue, note that by placing another magnet on top of the one in the chaplains back is essential so that you will have the correct polarization of the magnets

And here he is with the exchangeable back packs.

Well then, until next time. See you
