Tools: Palette

Palette is often recognizable as a tool with the reference of several colours.

Palette is a handy tool where you lay your paints down when painting you miniatures. There are two types of Palette that are available to use, Dry and Wet, both of which has pros and cons in using.

Dry Palette

Most Dry palette are made of plastic and have small holes where you lay you paints in and come in different shapes, sizes and number of holes. Below are some pros and cons that I know of in using this kind of palette.
Pros
  • No need to keep a pot of paint open
  • Easy access to the colours you are using

Cons
  • Paint can not be kept for a long time
  • Paint tend to dry faster and curdle in the palette
  • Paint needs to be remixed every now and then to keep consistency
  • Hassle to clean

Wet Palette

Wet Palettes are containers that are sealed shut to preserve the paints moisture and consistency for later use, this type of palette is often used for wet on wet blending. Below are some pros and cons that I know of in using this kind of palette.
The wet palette sealed

Take note that a parchment paper is needed, as it is where to place the paint and not directly at the sponge, as the sponge will absorb it.
Pro
  • No need to keep a pot of paint open
  • Easy access to the colours you are using
  • Keeps paint wet
  • Preserves paint consistency
  • Paint can be kept for a long time

Con
  • Molds can form in the sponge you are using
  • Water level must be maintained

Take note that this insights are based on my experience, this may vary from different people and places as the weather and humidity can also affect the paints moisture and consistency.

I also want to give a special shout out to Ian a.k.a Kuneho of Bad Finger Painting for the Wet Palette. Cheers!

Well then, until next time. See you!
